Out of everything I’ve made, this is the piece I’m most proud of. It took the longest to make but I love the vibrant colors and how they are accentuated by the dark background and frame.
I used a variety of shapes and sizes for the flowers and strategically placed them around the hand-woven basket. The brightly colored flowers compliment the light colored basket so neither takes away from the beauty of the other.
Last December, I decorated a recipe box for myself. It was a plain, cardboard box but I covered the bottom portion in mint green card stock and the top with pastel colored, striped card stock. I then decorated it with quilled flowers that accented the mint green and the various colors in the stripes. Recently, I was shopping in my local arts & crafts store and I stumbled upon a plain wood recipe box which I thought I could use to replicate my own recipe box. I used a shimmery mint green paint on the body of the recipe box and accented the trim in white. The top is covered with adorable cupcake card stock and the front and sides are beautifully decorated with handmade quilled flowers in various colors that compliment the theme of the recipe box. The recipe box stands approx. 3 1/2″ tall, is approx. 7″ wide at its longest points, and holds 3″ x 5″ recipe cards.
I also made another wood recipe box which I painted the same shimmery mint green but I topped this one with a pastel colored, striped card stock. This recipe box features a few strategically placed quilled flowers in colors that compliment the overall theme of the recipe box. The recipe box stands approx. 4 1/2″ tall, is approx. 6 1/2″ long, and holds up to 4″ x 6″ recipe cards.
